Introduce your baby to the water in a safe and fun way! Our child-centred program is the first of its kind in Canada, designed to introduce little swimmers to submersion, breath control, kicking on both the front and back and underwater swimming.
Join your child in our warm, salt-water pool as they discover the joys of swimming. We encourage you to start your baby as early as one year old to develop comfort in and around the pool.
Children graduate into our Swim 101 program at the age of 3.
Our Swim 101 classes lay the groundwork for your child to swim on their own. Important skills they will learn include self-submersion and breath control, front and back kicks, and freestyle swimming with their face in the water.
We have our Swim 101 students under the age of 6 use a Power Swimr to foster confidence in the water: a child who is afraid isn’t in the right mindset to learn! This tool adapts to your child’s skill level through the removal of foam layers to provide just the right amount of support they need to take those leaps of faith.
Children graduate into Swim Strokes 201 when they can swim 15m breathing as needed without a floatation device.
Swim Strokes 201 takes your child from beginner paddler to technical swimmer. This program teaches your child basic flutter kick, full with arm movement backstroke and freestyle (front crawl) with side breathing. Students learn fundamental techniques that will enable them to do competitive or distance swimming in future.
Children graduate to Advanced Swim Strokes 301 when they are able to swim 20m freestyle with side breathing and 20m backstroke.
Advanced Swim Strokes 301 teaches your child proper techniques for breaststroke and butterfly. Through precision instruction and specialized drills, students gain the muscle memory needed to master these advanced strokes. We also work on refining freestyle and backstroke. Your child will learn the breathing, confidence and strength required for competitive swimming or lifeguard training.
Children stay in this program until they are able to swim an 80m individual medley consisting of 20m of each stroke: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly.
Our Competitive Swim 101 is designed specifically to prepare your child for a competitive swim team. Through specialized drills, your child will gain the endurance and learn the pacing needed for distance swimming. Fundamental skills we focus on include all four main strokes and how to execute turns in the pool.
Competitive Swim 101 classes are offered at the Brookstreet Hotel (Kanata).
For kids aged 6 and up looking to take their swimming to the next level! Would you like to eliminate your fear of the water? Do you want to feel comfortable getting in the pool with family and friends?
Many adults struggle with a fear of the water, whether it’s at the pool, oceanside, or when out boating. This is a natural feeling if you’re an adult who does not know how to swim. Regardless of your age, you can learn!
Learn to swim in a warm, relaxing environment in our one-on-one or semi-private lessons. We will take the time to get to know you, meet you at your level and keep you progressing at your own pace.
We will guide you through learning one small swim skill at a time and before you know it you will be combining these skills to make up a swim stroke! You will learn things like: how the water works, how to move in the water without effort, put your face in comfortably, how to float on your front and back and recover to standing… The confidence and skills you learn will get you off the dock and into the water!
You just might surprise yourself with how far you go! Once you get comfortable with the water, you might start thinking about snorkeling, scuba diving, surfing and so much more!
Are you a triathlete? Is your swim the worst leg of your race? Does the swimming take more energy out of you than it should?
Are you a rescue professional who is getting ready to pass a required swim proficiency test?
Perhaps you’re a good swimmer who just needs a little 1-on-1 coaching to help you with some common swimming challenges such as breath control, streamlining, pacing or flip turns…
We would love to create a progressive, personalized training program just for you! We observe your comfort in the water, listen to your goals and carefully assess your existing skills. Then we work with you to improve whatever is holding you back.
These elements make ALSA the most effective way to improve stroke, skills and fitness while increasing your chances of passing (or acing!) swim proficiency tests.
Adult Swim Coaching is offered at the Brookstreet Hotel (Kanata).
