Stephanie Rainey is a former high school Drama and Science teacher who is now using her B.A. in Education to design innovative swim programs and a brand new Adult Learn-to-Swim curriculum.
Since 1989, Stephanie has been involved in swim education and has had the pleasure of teaching thousands of kids and countless adults to swim! She has also been a Special Olympics swim coach and Head Coach of a high school swim team.
She has a gift for relating to her students and bringing out their full potential in the water. Watching a student swim for the first time makes her heart soar! Stephanie is often referred to as the Swim Whisperer. She excels at passing on her knowledge and method to her instructors and loves to see her staff become incredible swim teachers.
Sophie has teaching in her blood, having grown up with two teachers for parents. Originally from Barrie, she grew up in her parents’ classrooms and her grandmother’s day care. She is currently attending the University of Ottawa, working towards becoming a teacher herself. When she isn’t instructing for Aqua Life or doing school work, she plays on the university’s water polo team.
Having grown up on Canada’s East Coast, Mélissa has a lifelong love for everything to do with the water. She can’t remember exactly when she learned to swim - only that she spent much of her childhood in the water. Every opportunity she gets, she loves to be in the ocean, either swimming or working on her surfing.
Having been teaching swimming since she was a teenager, Emily loves to have fun with her students while seeing them improve. She started swimming at the age of six, and was hired on as an instructor as soon as she finished her own training. In high school, she used to row for the dragonboat team.
Rosanna is Aqua Life’s customer care specialist, helping in the office with administration and customer inquiries. With a wealth of experience in hospitality, Rosanna also brings a genuine love for helping people into Aqua Life with her. She’s also the proud mother to two young daughters. At home, they enjoy playing dress-up and dancing. Friendly and easy-going, she loves to build real relationships when she works with clients. Rosanna looks forward to speaking with you!
Ayla brings a great deal of love and light to everything she does - including swim instruction! Her vibrant and sunny disposition merge with her attention to detail to make her a caring instructor in the water. Ever since she can remember, she’s wanted to be a teacher: that’s what drove her to get her lifeguard certification. All of her talents combine to make her a fun and patient swim instructor, with a genuine desire to see her students improve. To Ayla, there is no better feeling than when a student finally ‘gets it.’
Carl brings a calm and supportive approach to his swim instruction. His favourite thing about teaching is the chance to see students - whether kids or adults - develop their swim skills. It truly brightens his day. As an instructor, he’s dedicated to constantly learning himself, so he can better serve his students. With his patient and gentle manner, Carl has a great ability to make anyone comfortable in the water, no matter their skill level or age.
Tristan is a joy to work with, both for his sweet manner and incredible eye for detail. While he is caring with his students, he maintains a sense of structure in his lessons to ensure that they are always progressing. He likes problem-solving - if a student is struggling with something, he is able to scale it back and work on it from its foundation. One of his strengths in teaching is his very analytical approach. Tristan’s favourite thing about teaching with the Aqua Life is that his students genuinely appreciate their instructors.
In everything she does, Joanie embodies active living. With a Bachelor’s degree in Human Kinetics, she’s currently completing her Bachelor of Education. Joanie attributes her love of coaching to a great gym teacher she once had, who always pushed her to work harder and learn more. It was this same teacher who inspired her to work towards becoming a physical education teacher. In addition to a great deal of experience as a coach, Joanie brings a calm and scientific approach to her swim instruction. Any student of Joanie’s can be assured that they’re in very skilled hands.
Denzell first got into swim instruction as a teenager because he was passionate about swimming. As a teacher, he’s able to impart that passion to his students. To Denzell, there’s nothing more satisfying than seeing a student make use of the skills he’s taught them. He has a kind and caring disposition, which makes it easy for him to bring smiles to the faces of everyone he teaches. He loves working with kids, for their energy and their ability to always make him laugh. Denzell has an incredible ability to communicate his lessons clearly - all while still having fun in the water. He looks forward to helping you laugh and learn in the pool!
Charlene is a true supermom who brings her years of experience in hospitality and her love for people to her work as one of our Client Care Specialists. Friendly and easygoing, she genuinely enjoys helping people. Charlene is also very family-oriented, lending her a great sense of what parents and kids both want and need from their swim lessons. Plus, she loves to swim! Charlene grew up with a pool in her backyard and spent everyday of the warmer months in it. She looks forward to helping you out!
Mackenzie brings a holistic approach to all that she does, including swim instruction. With her work, she’s able to combine her passion for teaching with her love of the water. Mackenzie’s favourite part of lessons is the diversity in skill and age she sees among her students; every day of teaching is different, inviting new challenges for her students AND for her as an instructor. Her students can expect support not only in learning their physical swim skills, but also in bolstering their confidence. While she loves to have fun during every lessons, Mackenzie also believes in constantly challenging her students to do more - she’ll be your #1 cheerleader!
Isaac strikes a perfect balance between easy going and fiercely analytical. While he loves the fun side of swimming, he also sees it for the highly technical sport that it is. He combines these perspectives to give him a structured yet fun teaching style. After a volleyball injury left his knees damaged, Isaac is now a fierce advocate of athletic excellence - while ensuring you don’t overexert yourself. He brings this to swim instruction, striving to challenge his students while ensuring they stay safe. To Isaac, the best part of teaching is seeing his students progress. He looks forward to working with you in the water!
Katie has been swimming since she was a toddler and started teaching as soon as she was old enough. She loves the social aspect of teaching and the bond she’s able to build with her students. To Katie, there’s no better feeling than seeing a student who was struggling finally master a skill. She wants all her students to know she’s there for them - no matter what their athletic goals are. Katie’s students can expect a caring and instructor who will be there for them every step of the way.
